Sapling creates regenerative vodka - The Spirits Business
UK-based Sapling Spirits has partnered with chef and farmer Julius Roberts to launch a premium Regenerative Vodka.
The new release highlights Sapling’s mission to adopt the latest environmental practices and innovative thinking by offering consumers a vodka that helps regenerate soil.
Roberts has supported Sapling with his expertise in regenerative agriculture, ensuring every aspect of the vodka’s production aligns with sustainable practices and supports local farmers.
Roberts said: “I’ve admired Sapling from afar for a long time. It’s a brand that lives and breathes its commitment to nature and environmentalism – from grain to glass.
“Planting a tree for every bottle sold is just the cherry on top for a brand whose eco-credentials run deep. The grain for its core range is organic; it plants trees (320,000 so far) with local initiatives that support local communities; and its commitment to sustainable packaging has saved more than 300,000 bottles from entering the supply chain. It’s also, of course, a delicious vodka.”
He added: “So when Ivo and Ed, who are old friends of mine, invited me to join the company, I thought it was an absolute no-brainer. I look forward to helping them get the recognition they deserve with a brand model that I hope influences others for the better.”
Regenerative farming practices go beyond sustainability; they focus on rebuilding soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and capturing carbon from the atmosphere to produce carbon-negative vodka.
The regenerative wheat for the vodka is grown in Kent, farmed using sustainable techniques and is free from insecticides and fungicides.
The wheat is fertilised naturally, creating a closed-loop system that prioritises the health of the land. The entire production process, from farm to bottle, takes place within a one-mile radius, with low-carbon koji fermentation and minimal transportation, ensuring the vodka’s environmental footprint is as small as possible.
Sapling Spirits’ Regenerative Vodka offers notes of caramel, citrus, and chocolate orange, and is complemented by earthy and buttery undertones.
Ivo Devereux, co-founder of Sapling Spirits, commented: “Our goal was to create a product that truly highlights sustainable farming practices. With this new product, we’ve found a perfect way to share that story. It’s also one of the most exciting creations we’ve made – a brilliant balance of sustainability, sophistication and simplicity. I can’t wait for people to try it.”
Sapling Spirits’ Regenerative Vodka will launch in retail with Jeroboams and online on the brand’s website and Amazon. It is priced at £55 (US$71) per bottle.
Devereux and Ed Faulkner founded Sapling Spirits in 2018. Other brands on the company’s portfolio include a climate-positive vodka, London Dry Gin, and wonky raspberry vodka.
Last month, Sapling Spirits announced the appointment of Mark Cornell as its new chairman.
