Brockmans Gin introduces lighter bottle - The Spirits Business

English B Corp-certified gin brand Brockmans has introduced a new bottle containing 30% less glass on average than competitors.

The newly designed, lighter bottle is part of Brockmans Gin’s commitment to sustainability, with the brand’s gaining carbon-neutral status in 2020 and B Corp certification in late 2023.

The new packaging, designed by glass manufacturer Verallia, will be released in September 2024 and phased in across all products and markets. The bottle uses lighter glass, can be widely recycled, and ‘marks a significant achievement in reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining the premium quality and distinctive character of the ‘Properly Improper’ gin brand.’

Jean-Dominique Andreu, managing director of Brockmans Gin, said: “Our new bottle represents a significant step in our journey towards sustainability. We are proud to lead the industry with this innovative, lightweight packaging and are committed to continuing our efforts to create a more sustainable future.”

Weighing only 500 grams – which is, on average, 30% less than its competitors – the new bottle is made from 51% post-consumer recycled glass.

The comparison is based on the weight of the seven best-selling gin brands globally in the super-premium segment, according to 2023 data from IWSR. The data has been independently verified by Campden BRI.

Reducing the weight of glass bottles in the spirits industry is anticipated to save significant CO2 emissions in both manufacture and transport. We recently looked into the opportunities for aluminium.

“At Verallia, our aim is to reimagine glass packaging for a sustainable future, and we are honoured to work on this project with Brockmans Gin,” said Axel Guilloteau, general manager.

“We are constantly looking to align with clients who are inspired to reduce their impact on the environment and ones that look at packaging from a completely new perspective.”

Last year, Brockmans released an agave spirit-based expression infused with pink grapefruit.
