Popsicle Delights: Summer Treat Invented by California Boy!

As you will soon find out, the Maddox family has a thing for popsicles. I must admit, it began as a way to bribe my child to do unwanted tasks like taking medicine or cooperating at a boring adult function. "Don't embarrass Mommy in public and you can have an ice pop when we get home!" Plus, they are a great healer of boo-boos. Stung by a bee?Scraped your leg? Let this popsicle amp up that Serotonin to stop the tears!

I don't know that I have ever met someone young or old who didn't enjoy an ice pop! I hosted a Baby Sprinkle for my bestie Kristin this weekend, and, Damon, the daddy-to-be brought out some good ole Flavor Ice for the kids who were playing outside. All of us grown-ups sitting on the patio got jealous and had to join them. Everyone had their go-to colors, mine are blue or pink!

Can you believe that popsicles were actually invented by accident? According to the folks at Popsicle, in 1905, eleven-year-old Frank Epperson was outside playing and made himself a drink with a flavor packet in his water. At the end of the day, he forgot and left it outside as children do! The temp dropped overnight, freezing the sugary soda with the stirring stick still in it. Voila! The ice pop was born!

Little Frankie first coined his accidental treat an "Eppsicle." but once he became an adult, he was able to patent the invention. By this time, he had children and they inspired the name change to "Popsicles" because they always referred to them as "Pop's Sicles." So cute!

So, when you see us out at the Kroger with our cart full of freezer pops, just remember, we are supporting child entrepreneurs. If you're really nice, we will totally share. Because I know you love them too!
